Plan-Do-Share

Each day we spend some time doing Child Initiated Independent Learning, or Plan-Do-Share. This time provides an opportunity for children to plan and develop their play and interests. We encourage children to explore, take risks, make decision solve problems and share their experiences with others.

Plan
Each week, the things we can choose from change. We must choose our activity before we start and we cannot change.

Do
Some of the things we can do at Plan-Do-Share time are:

Puppets or Role Play.
We use puppets to tell stories. "I chose the puppets today because I love the puppets." Said Todd.

Play-Dough
We can use the play-dough. Sometimes we have a job to do with the play-dough. We had to make food to eat at breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was only pretend.

Writing Table
We can go to the Writing Table. "We can draw pictures." Said Kimiora-Dior. We can use the stencils." Said Brodie.

Sometimes we have a craft to do. "We made sunshines by ripping the paper and sticking it on." Said Nathan.

Review and Share
When we are finished and have packed up, we sit  behind the smiley faces. We have to think about how good we were at our Plan-Do-Share activity. Did we do the right thing? Did we work well with our classmates? Was it tricky? I do this often or sometimes.

Holly sat behind 3 smiley faces today because "I was doing the computers and not making any noise."

Jayden sat behind 2 smiley faces today because, "I was shouting in the sandpit.  I needed to come out of the sandpit. Next time I won't be noisy."

Nobody sat behind 1 smiley face today.

Room 9 is good at Plan-Do -Share time. We make good choices and work well together. We are learning to take responsibility for our choices and behaviour.

Road Safety with Constable Wansink

Today, room 9 had a visit from our community constable, Constable Wansink. We were talking about safely crossing roads.

We know that we should only cross while holding an adults hand.

At Torbay School, we have 2 school crossings. We have senior children on patrol in the mornings and afternoons to help us cross safely. We can go when they say "Cross Now."

We went out to the Kea crossing to practice. We stopped by the white line.

We looked left for traffic. Traffic is cars, motorbikes, bicycles, vans, buses, campervans, trucks and all other vehicles with wheels on the road.

We looked right for traffic.

We listened for traffic.

We knew it was safe when there was no traffic that we could see or hear. We crossed the road by holding hands, and walking and looking for more traffic.

Today we learnt to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN before we cross the street.

PMP

Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Room 9 does PMP in the hall.

When we arrive in the hall, we put our badges on. We have 4 teams of different colours.

This is Georgia putting her blue team name badge on. We are learning to squeeze the pin to open and close it ourselves.

Then we sit on colourful squares and do some brain gym. We turn on our ears, and our brains with some exercises.
Here is Jayden hooked up. We sit with our legs out straight, and with one foot over the top. We cross our arms, link our fingers and hook up our hands under our chin. Ask me to show you.

We learn new skills that help us develop balance and  motor control.
Here is Todd doing a heel toe walk. We snap our toes down like crocodiles

We also practice moving around the space in different ways. We practice making 'clever shapes' with our bodies.

Loren is making a tuck shape. This shapes helps us learn to do forward rolls. Rosalie is making a tall shape. This shape help us to learn to roll on the ground.

We love our PMP sessions. Thank you to the adults who help us. We couldn't do it without you!

Computers in Room 9

We have been learning to use the computers for maths in room 9 this week.

We are learning to:
  • use the mouse or tracker pad to move the cursor
  • click on the right place
  • turn the computers off at the end of the day
  • use the correct words to describe the equipment

"We have been playing Whack a Mole and SAS Parachute game." Says Kohl.

Deon is playing the SAS Parachute game. Deon says" It was fun because it is kind of quick."
Kimiora-Dior is playing this game too. She says "It's easy to move the arrow to click on the clouds.
We could play this game at home too.  Click Here

Here is Brodie and Nicholas playing Whack a Mole. Brodie says "The game is fun because you get to whack the mole which has the right number."
Nicholas got his score up to 123! Well done Nick!
We can play this game at home.  Click Here
