Winter Landscapes

Our first week back at school and we have been talking about winter. We thought of amazing winter words to use in our writing and we have done some Winter Landscapes to illustrate our writing.

We used white crayon on light yellow paper and drew a landscape scene with hills, trees and clouds.

Next we covered our picture with dye. We started with a zigzag of purple.

Then we covered the whole page with blue dye. It mixed with the purple and made it look like a chilly winter's day.

We turned our picture over a ndwiped the back of it to get off the excess dye. We are putting our winter landscapes with our winter writing. We are very proud of our work.

Todd, Jayden and Cameron even got to share their writing with Mrs Sandifer. They did a great job of thinking about their next word and writing the first letter! Great writing boys.

Matariki Stars

Today was the start of Matariki, the Maori New Year. We listened to the story of Matariki and then made some salt painted stars.

First we drew about the star stencil with chalk.

We squeezed PVA glue over our chalk lines and covered the glue with salt. We tipped off the salt that didn't stick,

In our Fine Motor session with Mrs Buchanan, we had been colouring and cutting stars. We added these to our picture.

Next we used water colour paints and salt to colour our stars. We had to use heaps of water and the salt sucked up the watery paint. We love watching it spread.

Our finished stars look amazing!

Dinosaur Silhouette Art

We have been learning about silhouette's with Mrs Tolsma. Today we created a piece of art to share our learning about dinosaurs.

First we used water colour paints to create a sunset background scene. We mixed the colours a bit. We could choose bright colours by using a little bit of water, or use lots of water to make lighter colours.

Next we drew dinosaur shapes onto black paper. We needed to think about the body parts of dinosaurs. We cut them out carefully.

Our next step was to glue our dinosaurs silhouettes onto our sunset background.

Finally we added leaves to the border.

They look incredible all hanging up. We are so proud of our Dinosaur Silhouette art!
