Meeting Harold!!

Today was our second and final session with Harold the Giraffe and Harriet in the Life Education van.

Harold gave us instructions to get to a nice place for a picnic. We used our imagination and walked to some music along the footpath and crossed the road.
Harold met us under a shady tree.
Harold even sang us a song about food. He likes "Variety".

Harold was hungry so we said we would share our lunch with him.
We talked about the places we get food from.

  • Ground (Trees / Plants)
  • Animals
  • Mixed ingredient food

We sorted our picnic food into the groups of where it comes
from.

Cameron knew that an avocado grows on a tree and he moved it to the Ground foods.

Rosalie knew that an orange coloured drink was not from fruit and was mostly sugar. She put it in the mixed ingredient food.

We made choices of good food for Harold's lunch box. We chose food that would help our body and brain.

We chose a fruit, a vegetable, and 2 from the animal group. We also chose him some porridge for breakfast.

We loved the stars.

Thank you Harriet and Harold!!

Kiwi Valley Farm Park

Today, Room 9 had a fantastic trip to Kiwi Valley Farm Park.

Farmer Chloe welcomed us to the Park and taught us about her job as a Farmer.

Then we were off for a tractor ride. We spotted a nanny goat, a billy goat, some horses and a donkey.

Next we were lucky enough to feed some animals. We started off with ducks, geese and a beautiful peacock. We learnt that it is the boy peacocks that have the amazing tails.

Each of us were given a bag of food. We were allowed to feed any animals, except the pigs. We kept our hands flat and they animals nibbled the food from us. We fed sheep, lambs, alpacas, donkeys and goats.

Next we all got to have a pony ride. Liam got today's bravery award for riding the horse even when he was scared. Awesome Committment Liam!

The favourite activity for many of us was visiting the nursery where we were allowed to cuddle different baby animals.

Georgia is cuddling a 4 day old baby pig and Loren is holding a soft rabbit. Jacob held a young chick while Ethan gets to know a rat.

Liam has help holding a small guinea pig.
We loved our day at Kiwi Valley. A huge thank you to our parent helpers. We couldn't do it without you.

On Friday we had a black out day to show our support for the All Blacks before they played in the Rugby World Cup Final on Sunday.

The school performed the haka and sent the video to the All Blacks.

It must have worked!!!!
